Inter Milan (-130) vs. Atletico Madrid (+400), DRAW (+260) | 2.5 (+120/-145)
Last year’s runner-up, Internazionale, secured their ticket to the Round of 16 by placing second in Group D (3-3-0). They’ll host the Group E winner, Atletico Madrid (4-2-0), on Tuesday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET from Stadio San Siro in Milan, Italy.
The Italian side is primed for another deep run this year. They’ve been in excellent form both domestically and on the continental stage. Simone Inzaghi’s men are absolutely lighting up Serie A, holding a nine-point lead in the table with a record of 20-3-1. Inter has been untouchable at home recently, going 4-0-0 in their last four matches, and posting a goal differential of +9 (10:1).
The recent string of home wins includes three consecutive clean sheets. During the group stage, the Nerazzurri conceded only once while registering a 2-1-0 record at home. I fully expect their defense and goalkeeping to be elite on Tuesday. While Atletico racked up 17 goals during group play, they haven’t faced anyone of Inter’s caliber. I’ll lay this short price with the home side.
Bet: Inter Milan Moneyline (-130)
PSV Eindhoven (+120) vs. Borussia Dortmund (+220), DRAW (+270) | 2.5 (-150/+120)
The other Tuesday match this week features a clash between PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund. The hosts placed second in Group B with a record of 2-3-1, while Dortmund went 3-2-1, which was good enough to win the highly-touted Group F. This contest is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET from PSV Stadion in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
Like Inter, PSV appears to be cruising to a domestic title. However, I can’t see them making it out of this round on the continental stage. The Dutch side actually posted a -2 goal differential (8:10) during the group stage. That’s not a team that I want to be taking a chance with, especially as they step up and take on a well-established team like Dortmund.
The German side proved to me that they’re for real this year. Not only did they advance to the knockout stage, but they won a group featuring PSG, AC Milan, and Newcastle. Their defense was superb, surrendering only four goals over the six matches. They also have the third-best defense on the domestic front, where they reside in fourth in the Bundesliga. I expect Dortmund to at least bring this aggregate back to Germany tied, but I think they’re live to win this road contest outright. I’ll take them on the "Draw, No Bet" line.
Bet: Dortmund To Win, Draw No Bet (+130)
Porto (+450) vs. Arsenal (-150), DRAW (+285) | 2.5 (+100/-125)
Wednesday’s schedule offers up a pair of matches as Napoli and Barcelona square off in Italy, while FC Porto and Arsenal go toe-to-toe in Portugal. I’ll focus on the latter of those matches, which kicks off at 3:00 p.m. ET from Estádio do Dragão in Porto.
Porto got to this point by placing second in Group H, going 4-0-2. Arsenal posted a 4-1-1 record in Group B, which was enough to win their cohort. I’m going to play the Under in Portugal on Wednesday afternoon. Porto’s defense held up well in the group stage, where they surrendered only seven goals over six matches. They’ll have a tall task against a red-hot Arsenal side, but when you factor in the home-pitch advantage, I think they can limit the Gunners.
Chiefly, I love this Under because of the way Arsenal’s defense is playing. They conceded only four times in the group stage, and they also boast the best overall defense in the English Premier League. Arsenal has allowed just 22 goals over 25 matches on the domestic front. Furthermore, they’ve been nearly impenetrable over their last five matches, giving up just two goals over the five-match sample size. I think Mikel Arteta will emphasize defense as his squad tries to escape Portugal with at least a draw. They have plenty of talent to accomplish that feat so give me the Under in this contest.
Bet: Under 2.5 Total Goals (-125)
